Civil engineering and infrastructure in Sierra Leone
ASSAS delivers civil engineering in Sierra Leone for water supply, sewerage, drainage, earthworks and site preparation. The work starts with the levels, ground conditions and connections that determine how the completed system will function. We define the construction package against drawings and measured quantities, with responsibility for design, approvals and existing services recorded in the written scope.
Establish the network and its connections
A drainage or pipework contract needs an agreed start point, end point and route. Drawings should identify pipe materials, sizes, gradients, chambers, crossings and the connection to existing infrastructure. For water and sewerage work, the scope also needs to distinguish new construction from repair, diversion or connection to an operating system.
Earthworks require defined formation levels, excavation limits and arrangements for material that leaves or remains on site. Treatment plant packages need boundaries between structures, pipework, mechanical equipment and electrical work. These interfaces affect measurement, procurement and the order of construction. They should be settled before different contractors begin work on the same area.
Use site information to define the work
The survey establishes levels and the position of existing features. Ground investigation informs the design of excavations, structures and foundations. ASSAS delivers survey, ground investigation and materials testing through Group staff and specialist partners. The required tests and reporting are identified for the project, rather than assumed from another site's results.
Existing utilities and occupied areas require a planned sequence. The scope must identify access, temporary crossings and any work needed to keep a service operating. Where the route crosses a road or enters another property, responsibilities for permissions and reinstatement need to be recorded before excavation.
Account for rainwater and site access
Freetown's terrain and drainage routes make the position of an outfall a practical design question. Rainwater must have an identified route beyond the new works. A drain that ends at an unresolved boundary leaves part of the system unfinished, even if the concrete channel itself is complete.
During wet weather, open trenches and exposed formation need an inspection before the next stage proceeds. The programme should cover temporary drainage, delivery access and the handling of excavated material. Site decisions must follow the project design and the conditions found, with changes documented where those conditions differ from the information used for pricing.
Price, supervise and record the package
Our bill of quantities separates measurable work such as excavation, concrete, reinforcement, pipework and reinstatement. Written terms set out rates, programme, payment and the variation procedure. One named site lead is responsible for the work, while materials, labour, plant and changes are recorded. How we work explains the reporting arrangements. Roads and bridges, and quantity surveying, are related services where the scope requires them.
Client questions
Can you construct drainage for an existing property?
We can assess the proposed scope from the site's levels, discharge point and existing drainage. The quotation identifies the new work, connections, access requirements and reinstatement, subject to the agreed design.
Do you provide survey and ground investigation?
ASSAS delivers these services through Group staff and specialist partners. The agreed scope identifies the survey, investigation, tests and reports required for the project.
What information is needed for a pipework quotation?
Send the location, drawings and specification, including the route and intended connections. We identify missing measurements and site information before preparing the measured scope.
How are unexpected ground conditions handled?
The condition is recorded and reviewed against the design and contract assumptions. Any resulting change to the work, price or programme follows the written variation procedure.
Can you work around an occupied site?
Access and service continuity are agreed before work starts. The construction sequence identifies temporary arrangements and the areas affected so you can plan around the works.
